Installation of plaster decoration
Here we present to you one of the possible variations of stucco moulding installation. This is the creation of a column from 4 half-column surfaces set around of a wooden beam (about 5 m height).
You can install a plaster decor in different ways, but in any case the properties of the material define main principles of installation.
Plaster is a plastic material, which can be easily processed, adjusted to the necessary size and is easily repaired.
During installation of stucco mouldings all the possible damages incurred during transportation, can be corrected; joints, fastening elements and roughness of installation are covered over.
First of all we installed wooden bases on the floor and under the ceiling around the beam (the plaster base and a capital will be fastened to them).
The plaster base of the columns (2 half-bases) is fastened to a wooden base around the beam.
Half columns are cut to the necessary length
As a first step half columns are fixed by a painters tape

Decorative finishing
As a mineral substance, plaster is a neutral surface on which it is possible to use practically any kind of coating.
The most simple and widespread kind of plaster finishing is traditional and modern painting. Stucco mouldings are toned in accordance with the colour scale of the particular interior. New technologies enable us to experiment with plaster, applying various types of paint.
It is also possible to apply the following coating methods:
- Using wax or patina: they keep a natural appearance of plaster, giving it a touch of time, and make its texture visually more velvet; wax treatment is also an additional protection of plaster against mechanical damages and ageing;
- Decorative furnish: with the help of pigment dyes and paint thickeners and using pieces of cloth or sponge it is possible to create various textures with a marble, granite, etc. effects;
- Gilding with a foil: the technique which allows to simulate a luxury of an antique decor; usually separate details of a moulded element or a certain motive of an ornament are highlighted. It is also possible to play with an infinite variety of shades of gold, copper or silver.
