Small educational program: what is Vlieseline?

Pub. date: 16.11.2009

For the last years the wall-coverings manufacturing techniques had changed greatly. New materials and textures have appeared which now allow to «dress-up» an apartment or a house in ecological and comfortable wall-coverings.

The name “Vlieseline” was primary a trade mark belonging to Freudenberg and Co. As well as the word «Xerox», a word “Vlieseline” became nominal. Now in Russian language the word is used as the name of the whole class of materials. More correct is to use such words as «nonwoven textiles» or «pressed textiles».

The pressed textiles are a nonwoven materials from cellulose and textile fibers (viscose, clap, polyester etc.) with addition of binding substances and paints. This material is non-polluting and does not contain any harmful additives.

The basis from nonwoven textile is used for improvement of physical and operational properties of wall-coverings. Air easily runs through wall-coverings on such basis, they are extremely strong against rupture and constrain occurrence of micro cracks; therefore inhabitants of new buildings should pay special attention to such wall-coverings. Unlike wall-coverings on a paper basis, wall-coverings on a nonwoven basis do not get stretched and do not shrink after humidifying. All that makes them easier to glue. Only such kind of wall-coverings allows making a joint almost invisible. As a rule, glue is put on a wall that also simplifies the process of their mounting. When changing the wall-coverings, the top layer can be easily removed without being steeped, and the basis remains on a wall.

The nonwoven textiles can serve as a “face” of wall-coverings itself. The wall-coverings from nonwoven textiles made by French factory Elitis possess original modern design. It is necessary to mention such collections as MISE EN SCENE, SERIE LIMITE, TENUE DE SOIREE, SIXDESIGNS, FUSION, XXL, and RAYURES. These ultramodern wall-coverings help to create space and recover any interior. The Omexco factory also uses this material — for example, in such collections as STARDUST, OXYGEN, DISCO, HELIUM, and ONYX.

Besides, the nonwoven textiles can be applied as a bottom layer in multilayered wall-coverings. In this case a jacquard fabric cloth (MILANO or DUKE’S collections for example); «thread-to-thread» technology (VICTORIA, PEONIA, DIVA); or paper fibers (PAPYRUS, LAGUNA) can be used as an external layer. Very interesting decorative effect show wall-coverings made from natural mica (vermiculite).
